Our undergraduate program aims for our graduating students to acquire the following knowledge, skills and behaviors:

1. Students have a knowledge about periods and currents in Turkish language and literature; the historical development of literary genres and individual texts. Moreover, they are acquainted with determinant facts of various linguistic and literary situations.

2. Students know how and where to find the existing academic, linguistic and literary sources on a subject or problem, by gaining the ability to research Turkish literature, and they are capable of looking at them critically.

3. Students have information about formal and semantic structure, functioning and historical transformations of Turkish language in theoretical and practical level.

4. Students are intensively interested in theoretical questions related to creation, structure and reception of poetry and prose texts. They obtain reading competence by comprehending which text should be read in which case with which reading methods; the temporal and historical positions of the texts and their cultural origins at the structural and semantic level.

5. Students gain versatile and analytical thinking competence by learning how to be able to conceptualize and classify textual structures, effects and diverse communicational phenomenons.

6. Students gain a literary culture by learning how to make convincing and valid explanations about new linguistic-literary facts and events.

7. Due to literary culture acquired by the students, they have an ability to create open, understandable, original and conciliatory comments by establishing connections related to new social, political, moral, religious, sociological, psychological, cultural, aesthetic and philosophical transformations and challenges.

8. Students can apply their own original interpretations and developed perspectives to the languages and literature of different cultures on a comparative level, being aware of ever-increasing interdependence between them.

Graduates can find employment in public institutions, organizations and private sector in all fields where critical and creative reading, systematic research and presentation, oral and written communication skills are required. These areas and professions include:

1. Publishing and media: printed publishing such as books, newspapers and magazines, digital publishing such as radio, television and the internet.

2. Librarianship, archival science, museology, second-hand book trade,

3. Advertising agencies and tourism guidance,

4. Public relations, marketing, human resources and communication consultancy,

5. Teaching Turkish Language and Literature in educational and cultural institutions, teaching Turkish as a foreign language by obtaining necessary certificates.

6. Work as an academician at universities and institutes by taking master’s and doctoral education.
